Live Oncidium orchid plant is NOT currently spiking or blooming.
Though this orchid is incredibly tiny, it IS blooming size!
Oncidium velutinum (sometimes classified as Tolumnia velutina) is a micro/miniature Oncidium type orchid with tiny little foliage fans and rare purple colored blooms. While this unique orchid plant is about 0.75″ to 2″ across, the flowers are comparatively gargantuan. Blooms come in on 6″ tall spikes, and are nearly the size of the plant itself! This orchid has a vigorous rambling habit, and will grow new fans every inch or so along the rhizome.
Oncidium velutinum prefers its roots to dry out very quickly – but also loves water. They do best either mounted or grown bare root in a terracotta pot. These mini orchids are available mounted to wine corks with a hanging hook, or, for the orchid growing purist, bare root in a 2.5″ terracotta pot.
Orchids are native to tropical climates, and generally do best around 65 to 80 degrees. Weatherized shipping is included with all our plants whenever required. We delicately wrap our live plants in layers of sheet foam and include a 72+ hour heat pack when temperatures are low. However, we make no guarantees that our tropical plants will survive extreme freezing temperatures. It’s the duty of the buyer to open packages immediately upon arrival. Our commitment to excellence means we ship exclusively express methods, usually USPS Priority 1-3 day, as all live plants should be. Consider having your order Held for Pickup, or delayed during extreme weather – just send us a note with your order.
