This is a nobile type Dendrobium which is deciduous and defoliates annually in concurrence with blooming. The Oriental Smile 'Butterfly' variety has incredibly vibrant blooms with colors ranging from pink to bright orange to yellow. Bloom color expression and intensity is variable from plant to plant, and is also dependent on age of individual flowers and other variables. See photo #3 of recently opened, less intensely colored blooms. These are large blooming size plants that have foot-tall canes!
